Notes from the Director
We have an exciting week of events for our students this week. On Wednesday, Rossano Galante, a film/television composer and band music composer, will work with our students on one of the pieces we are preparing for festival. He will also take questions from the students about his professional career and music opportunities in careers after high school. This is a terrific opportunity for our students to meet a living composer!
On Friday, all students in the Los Altos Bands & Color Guard will travel to Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles to attend a performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This outstanding opportunity to hear one of the top five orchestras in the world will help our students by hearing professional musicians perform live. Nothing can replace that experience. I am grateful to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Supervisor Janice Hahn, and our district for helping to make this experience possible for our students. We will eat lunch while we are away from school, so please bring money or a sack lunch for your meal. We will dress in nice clothing for this event, so please no ripped clothing, revealing clothing, or any item of clothing that would reflect poorly on our band, school, or district. Students are expected to make appropriate choices in their behavior and be responsible and respectful of others at all times.
The Percussion Ensemble performs at their next competition on Saturday at Marina HS in Huntington Beach. Please support our students as they continue in their season.
The Los Altos Band Boosters thank you for your participation in last Friday’s annual Taste of Los Altos fundraiser. Our total income from the event is about $3200. Students sold 229 tickets or about 2.3 tickets per student. The silent auction brought in a little over $900. This was our final fundraiser for several months, so the money the Boosters have in the bank account at this time will need to carry us forward until our major fundraisers again happen next fall. To give you some perspective, our staff is paid approximately $3100 this spring. The money you raised pays for approximately one month of salary.
