Notes from the Director
Champions!!!!!! Congratulations to the members of the Percussion Ensemble for their incredible season, which ended on Saturday at Azusa Pacific University. They won the Gold Medal as the best Scholastic Concert group in Southern California. Their outstanding season never saw them below 1st Place in any competition, and they continued this in Finals, with a 7 point lead over the Silver Medalist. Thanks especially to Bruno Cilloniz for great music and instruction, student helpers, and parents who helped in so many different ways. Great job Conquerors!
Our final festival is on Tuesday when the Los Altos Wind Ensemble performs at Colony HS. Buses will depart at 1 PM. Warm up is at 4 PM, performance at 4:30 PM, and sight reading at 5 PM. As soon as we have all of our materials back from the festival, we will depart for Los Altos. We should arrive no later than 7 PM, and likely earlier. Parents please be prepared to pick your students up shortly after arrival. Dress is concert black.
Our annual Spring Concert will be next week, and we will once again do a concert under the stars in the lower quad. The success of last year’s event made everyone want to do it again. We will have pre-sale tickets for hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks. All families who would like to participate in the meal should bring a dish to share: sides and desserts. We will have 1-2 after school rehearsals next week to prepare for the concert.
Our final event of the year is Graduation, on May 21st. All instrumental students are required to participate in the graduation band for the ceremony. Shortly, the two rehearsals for this performance will be announced. They will be directly after school, as always.
Finally, we have two camps next week for tryouts. Please contact your friends who are not already in the band program and encourage them to join us at color guard or percussion tryouts. Wind students are always welcome as well. If you have an interest in Jazz Band for next year, we will have several openings to fill. This is a great opportunity to learn a second instrument especially saxophone, guitar, piano, or drumset.
